Give-Away, Here are a couple of the 4-6 photos you will have a choice of.

Here it is!
I went out last night and shot the Ports of Call LA Harbor lights.
Playing with Light. No flash! Tripod 100 to 500 ISO F/4 to f14 Exposure from .8 sec to 25 seconds.

So here is the first one to become a selection photo.

Kiddie Ride, LA Fog Series 2015 I don't know the colors and towering cranes in the background made a nice mix of light. Moon above the ride.

Here is another one from the same area, this one I decided was a keeper when I looked at the shot on the camera last night. Played with it a bit.

I might make some final adjustments, but these 2 photos will be in the selection. I will try to get the rest up tomorrow, Sunday, night USA PST time.

I did not say that friends and family can not enter, because at this point they may be all that enter. At my discretion, I will award 2 prizes if  family/friend wins and enough new/different/other people enter. 5-10 people?? It is my interest to give to you the public the prize. My friends and family get to ask me for photos anytime they want!

Anyway, it is late but I wanted to get this out tonight.

A taste, hope you like them and stay for some more.

Peter

See! It Happened this morning.

FOG!

Got up this morning to see the harbor socked in with fog.

So I shortened my walk, grabbed some coffee, protein drinks and camera equipment.

Off to see what I would find. While it never got the really neat lighting effects I’ve seen. I did get to spend several hours in one area moving back and forth.

Different compositions, some color, some to be black & white conversions.

Anyway, there is this morning’s fog. Hope you like it. I was shooting f16+ with my tripod. (I didn’t carry water so I would not go over my weight restrictions.)

Either my Canon 16-35mm f2.8L or my Tamron 28-75mm f2.8. Canon 7D, ISO 100.

Fog Over the L.A. Port, a project!

sunrise over L.A. Harbor

Good Morning Everyone!

As I said in the “Work Smarter, Not Harder…” post things are changing for me.

I’m on disability for a hernia surgery on Jan. 23rd. I have 6 weeks of doctor’s orders NOT to lift more than 10 lbs.

OK, so I’m a work-alcoholic…….

At MMP, I did what I had to do so that I did not have to get another job and learn their system AND THEN, get back to planning my future.

8 years ago I got out of prison for being an activist for my son’s Human Rights. End result, my son loves me, talks to me and respects me. We hugged and met face-to-face for the first time in almost 12 years a couple weeks ago.

So my life is changing for the BETTER!

I had $500, a 1997 Ford Ranger and a couple boxes of my past.

Today: I still got the truck. I got money in the bank, a little ETF stock, 3 years of research into any and all forms of photography business (the first few years I was just looking at businesses to see what would I Like to do), read 100’s of books on digital and film photography, seen dozens of videos, invested some $50,000 in pro and semi pro photography equipment/software/computer system, 100’s of hours learning software for digital photography, shot 43,000+ images, got a blog, got an e-commerce website (not launched yet, work in progress), lots of businesses contacts.

Plus I got ME!

I am creative, so I am creating.

Vanderhoof Photography is a bit of a dream from when I was 4 years old or so. My Dad had a person living with us that was a photographer. He opened his camera case and showed me his Hasselblad camera. OK, so I was 4, I still went WOW! and put my hands behind my back as I bent in close. Later, when I was 7 or 8, I decided to try to be a writer. I’m dyslexic, not bad, but some of comments from teachers about my spelling!! Guess I just like achallenge!

Been the starving artist most my life, everyone in my family kept saying “Get a job, you’ll never make any money as an artist.”

OK, so I fell for it. But on the side I always dreamed of being an artist creating.

Now, I’m DOING it.

I am an Activist, do not expect me to just show pretty pictures. I am editor of the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter CAmera Committe. (volunteer)

Yes, I love to make people happy. But I also love make people THINK! I hope I can do this and You, the readers will make comments and ask questions as I take you on this journey in my new adventure. Together we can learn even more.

The Project! For years I have watched many different awesome lighting scenes over the L.A. Harbor, but could never go shoot it because I had to go to work.

Now I get to go find the angles of light and shadow of these cranes and other objects of the skyline. I get up at 5am to go for my meditation walk. So I see these sunrises a lot and this shot is just a tease of potential I get to tap. These cranes stick up through the fog/low clouds and I will be sharing a lot of color and Black & White photos of these. Maybe you folks can put links to your fog photos in the comments and we can see how much Fun we can have.

It is the start of B/W L.A. Port Fog Series, I hope you all gain from it.
