20160812: Old boots, almost retiring time…Vasque Breeze GTX review

20160811 old boots-5949FB

Not sure how many years these boots have on them, I think I bought them in 2013…

UPDATE 20160817: at the bottom is a screen shot of the Vasque Review, they recommend having the boots resoled by a person In Seattle, Washington. In case anyone else needs to have their boots done.

UPDATE 20160813:  Inside the Boots

20160813 inside boot-5968FBNot much wear showing inside…

But as the heels show, the sole has worn through, they are kind of slick on on the wet streets. But I have found that the Vasque Breeze (GTX) hiking boots are some of the most comfortable boots I have had. Soft enough to wear all day, water proof to the almost the top, there is a little gap so the tongue has flexibility. I do find them a bit hot in the troical weather I am in here in Mexico, but with the unpredictable terrain, they are valuable to wear. Thinsulate linings are in a good state, no worn out. With 3 years on them, I am glad I bought a 2nd pair 2 years ago. Vasque Breeze II GTX

And as you can see, the uppers are also showing the miles of deserts, high mountains, mushy meadows, streams, snow, long hours in the nights shooting stars, never knowing what I might step in and city life they have traveled.

20160811 old boots-5950FB

At $169.00 USD, even the shoelaces are the original, none of the hooks have broken, and never one to be easy on equipment, I have hard time saying it time to Retire.

I am hoping to put the new ones in service when I change continents at the end of the year.

Here is a link to the company’s site on these shoes. NOPE, I nothing to with the company or selling this product.

Creative Shooting to all.

Please make comment about your favorite boots in the links, we all like different boots for different reason, just as we shoot with different perspectives…

20160404: Spring flowers by one’s door.

For the story on this shot, read my review on my tripod system. Spring time everyone wants flowers by their door! Copyright Vanderhoof Photography 2016

Wildflowers, a tease from past years.

Wildflower season is coming!

macro shot of cactus flowers

cactus flowers with macro. f/2.8, 1/1600s, ISO 160, 100mm

This shot is from Joshua Tree N.P., a favorite spot of mine. In tight with a shallow depth of field, light background bokeh, one flower in focus and one just out of focus causes un-balance in the photo. Which makes your eye move around the photograph and come back to the focused flower.

Wildflowers, Red Rock Canyon 2015

Here is a photo, similar idea, purple flowers are on level plane, little tighter f-stop, but dark background bokeh. This time I put the flowers on an angle and 3 clusters. 2 ancient tricks to make interesting images in your photograph.

While these two photos are not wildflowers, they are the same bush, different styles of photos.

Sometimes the insects help out and make a more interesting photo. Trick! Be Patience, Move slow. Take shots as you move in. Red Rock Canyon, Calif. 2014

So, these are just a few of the wildflowers I’ve shot and I am NO expert on the subject. This season I want to try and spend more time doing macro shots and the deep depth-of-field shots like the yellow flowers and dead tree photo. I also hope to learn a few tricks from my Sierra Club Camera Committee members as we all do some trips and share our photos.

I hope these photos give you some ideas of ways to creatively shoot wildflowers this year. Here in Southern California, we are getting a little rain and more coming so I’m expecting it to be a good year. Just might be chasing the flowers all over the place as different areas bloom. If you live in the SoCal area and see some wildflowers worth chasing after, leave  some info in the comments or send me and email.

Anyway, ask questions, leave me a comment, Love to hear from you. (it’s late, I’m going to bed)

Creative shooting everyone,

Peter

It’s a Give-Away! 8×10 framed original Photograph by Vanderhoof Photography

Free!

Trona Pinnacles 2015

Trona Pinnacles 2015

Just post a photo of yours in my comments section and I will add you to a drawing for an 8 x10 original photograph, printed on archival paper, matted, signed and framed. Outside frame dimensions 12.5 x 15.5 inches.

I will select 4-6 photos that the winner can choose from and print each photo to order on archival paper. I will ship it to the winner free of charge.

Yes, this is part of my advertising/marketing. I want people to interact with my blog. I want to show off what I shoot so I can make a living.

I’m sure I will offer Fine Art Prints in promotions in the years to come as well.

Let’s see how many people can get a photograph posted by Friday, Feb. 13th. I’ll announce the winner on Sat. Feb. 14th.

So, every week starting on Saturday and ending on Friday, anyone posting a photograph in my “Comments” (nothing X-rated, will consider classic nudes as fine art, but I will keep it to clean artistic nudes.), will be entered in that week’s contest. Odds depend on how many people enter. While you may post more than 1 photo, you name will only be entered in the drawing once. Winners will not be allowed to enter again, but may continue to post photos anyway. After all I want you all to come back and stay a while.

I will run this drawing till June 27, 2015. The last winner will be announced June 28, 2015. (unless I’m out of town.)

ALL PHOTOS WILL BE SHIPPED IN 3-5 WEEKS OF THE WINNER’S WINNING WEEK.

Warning: I may be out traveling and have to vary this schedule some. But what can you expect for free………

So talk it up. Post some photographs. Let’s have some fun! I look forward to seeing all you photographs.

Also I’m editor of the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Camera Committee’s newsletter Focal Points. So I’m seeing a lot photos of members as the travel around and keeping my hand in the design business. I’m sure I’ll be talking about travel with them as well travels with my father and Clive, my camping/photography friend.

My Dad, (world traveler that he is), is looking at the Great Lakes area and a Norway cruise. The Norway cruise I have the choice of either London or Rotterdam as the embarking point. Have not been to Europe yet, so anyone having input on which City/area I might enjoy photographic-ly more. Or just some insights on those places. Let me a message in the “Comments”. Will spend a day or so in one of those cities before the cruise.
