20171129 Editing night shots of San Juan

While the view is limited, an artist is always looking for a new angle.

Dia de Muertos night event, the fountain is on, shutter slowed down a little to let the motion show & then the Independence Tower lights to contrast nicely.

20171121: DIY Strip light for under $10USD

OK, so this ain’t no pretty beauty queen of a strip light box, but heck a “decent” one starts at around $80USD.

20171121 Strip light box-0235_FB

Down here in Mexico, while I don’t know how soon I will need one, the shipping is expensive or I have to research out the Mexican companies that supply one.

I also have a money shortage & needed some soft boxes & hair light & a strip light so that adds of fast.

Well, the hair light and strip box were a little easier to make. I will wait on the soft boxes.

I made a hair light box out of cardboard & just need to find a little brighter light for it. The small LED light stick is too dim for studio work. I can stick a flash in there.

But the other day I noticed that here in town there are LED strip lights for sale & at only 95 pesos for one, heck that is like $5 USD so why not invest a little time to make a strip light out of one.

My neighbor also gave me a big cardboard box that was too large for what she needed.

So,

1200mm is over 4ft long & 6500k is a nice level to work with. I did have a small issue that facing forward I got stripes on the wall. I had bought the clear lens so I could have the most light possible & would make my own defusing for it.

So I just turned the light around and faced into the box. The shiny side of the aluminum foil would defuse that issue just fine.

I then added some more cardboard to make “barn doors” on the box.

I put aluminum foil on the joints of the barn doors & made sure that the barn doors were in the full open position when taping them together so I would not have issues of opening and closing them or light leaks.

Over all time is a couple hours of work, but here is the light in action.

Wide open doors.

Closed most the way.

And a half way flagged position.

So tape, aluminum foil, a cardboard box & a strip of LED 6500k lights, plus a little and I have something that works.

Like a say, “it ain’t pretty to look at!” But it does the job for now!

And is light weight enough to hang on a light stand/boom or even from the ceiling.

Creative Shooting folks! Specially those of you with a limited budget.

20171121: Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 “L” repair test shots. Looking Good!

So this past weekend was some part of Mexican Independence Celebration, the locals that speak English could not explain it fully to me.

But with the 16-35mm back in action, it was time to go play in the night with it.

Nothing better than a reflection in the night when you don’t have stars to shoot!

My Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 just is not able to pull this off, standing a little further back and the wall containing the fountain hides the reflection of the crosses.

Most the time this fountain is either on or dry… so I shot both sides.

Just a little fun in the lights…

Well, with a few shots with the “fixed” Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 “L” II … I think it is going to be just FINE!

20171120: KARMA, 5 dozen eggs, hum & yum!

OK, so the other day I did a small job for a neighbor…

20171116_202531

While she paid me the money for the job, which I did not charge much being my neighbor, she also handed me these 60 eggs!

I laughed & complained that I had no refrigerator & it was too many. She smiled & said she works at a ranch & they give her eggs all the time at no cost, go share them.

I had been considering buying myself some eggs for the past couple of days as I had not had any for almost a year. This was a pleasant surprise to receive so many!

So I tried to offer someone some, but Adriana had given that person some a week before so she did not need them either.

Well, I like pickled eggs & know how to make them, some omelettes & the rest boiled to pickle!

The cooler weather will let me keep some for a few days for omelettes, but not more than 2-3 days. This also means I don’t have to buy some chicken yet either which was why I was considering buying some chicken or eggs.

I am vegan, mostly veges, fruit & beans, tortillas, cheese & breads, but some eggs or chicken or fish once in a while is nice change of pace.

Adriana does not speak English, so Alicia was translating for me & Adriana wanted to know about the pickling of eggs, so I will give her some after they are ready in a week or so.

Karma folks, eggs in my belly, not on my face.
