20170907: NEW DIGS & internet too!

OK, so the new apartment is much better…

instead of 3feet below the street in a courtyard the has a plugging up drain…

I am 3 feet above the street and a huge street drain 100 feet from the building entrance.

20170825_175559

And yes the landlord OK’d me to put a sign up about my being in business up right where the arrow is.

Inside, well I have a total of 4 rooms.

20170825_175327

Yes, I can lock down my studio area… cleaning in progress in this photo.  That is all done.

I am settling in and making myself at home. Those photos are coming soon.

Yes, the hot water heater is DEAD! but at least I have a private banos/shower after 20 months. (banos is bathroom)

20170825_175519

Around the corner where the truck is to the right, I have a tortilla place. Fresh made corn tortillas piping hot, 14 pesos for a kilo & I can get a half kilo which takes me a couple days to eat.

Alicia is a person who helped me get this place she lived in USA for years & speaks decent English. The owner of the apartment lives in USA and speaks English.

The Manager & his wife who is the sister of the owner are very helpful. Jorge speaks some English so my little Spanish & his little English makes it possible to communicate. Their food is also very good. I can’t eat beef & pork, but they make chicken burgers and quesadillas. I get chicken & mushroom quesadillas with fries quite often. 50 pesos! Open 7pm to midnight.

20170825_175530

Where that red crate is in the street, is a small store, fresh fruit & veges, Mexican sweet breads, and some basic food supplies as well as dry goods. I can walk to all the stores I use to go to before easy enough.

The studio! and yes folks the floor tile really is that ugly…. but I can live with it!

20170825_175129

About 20 feet deep, lots of room to put my computer desk & should I have clients for photographic work, room to set up a shoot area.

I will offer graphic design lesson on a computer outside the studio on a old computer on the other side of the windows.

While air flow is not great, the heat is deflected somewhat by the fact the apartment is deep inside so much other buildings. I stay some what cooler in here. It some what funny, the locals grab jackets when the temperatures get down to the lower 70s… me, well I am running around in shorts and sweating even when it rains around here.

At 5000ft+ elevation yes, it does get cold in the winter, specially after 100 degree summers, but this tropical weather around here.

With the private patio, I can leave my windows open most the time and get plenty of air. And since I hate having mosquitoes bite me, yes I figured out how to screen a Mexican window.

I still have the door window to do.

And yes, I am a bachelor to the max… my private hand washing laundry sink!

20170826_151204_FB

The flowers and herbs are outside now, I have wires for hanging clothes inside when it rains as well. The sink in the banos is not working just yet, so I am also washing hands & shaving out here. But it is nice not to stand in line to wash my clothes any more!

I can make about 6 trips a day with the dolly, I have to stop and drink my water when I get home. But I am just a Mexican moving as far as anyone else is concerned. Yes, the “American” has weird stuff. But otherwise no one cares & even the local police pay no attention to me, other than one motorcycle cop, taking a double take on this load of wood. The shock on his face made it obvious, he realized the weight of my load. But he just turned and went on up the street without any further cares.

One of my first meals in the new apartment.

Any way, settling in and having fun once more!

More photos to come as I get the place cleaned up & set up.

Adios for now!

20170404: Playing like a youngster… Grunge effect.

Print

OK, so people photography is boring to me & all that.

However, I was asked to do some work for a young man & given the image he sent me and the request of turning it into line art.

I sent him back these 2 images… to consider for his posters for sales in his shop.

Print

I did not listen to this man’s music, the image was kind of there in & of it’s self. A musician , a photo that I guess a lot of young people know….

So the Grunge effects, the twisting turning it into some art of his flavor…

Waiting to see what the client thinks.

An old dog that knows a few tricks, an artist that never stops learning, that is me, not in any box because I just ever fit in one.

Creative Shooting/Artistic fun  Folks

20170220: Fruit Fun Bandito!

20170219-pancho-to-mangosfb

The fruit cart vendor & I have been exchanging laughs in my broken Espanola…

The other day we chatted of Pancho Villa, so yes I had to have some fun with it. Currently getting this printed out for him. Hopefully the print shop will bring the printout over a little bit before he leaves for the. I took the photos of the mango stick & fruit cups just a little while ago before he got to busy, as he was setting up.

too funny for me & a bit of creative fun!

20170106: Some days you need a bucket to sit in…

20170106-pot-to-sit-in-6852fb

Yes, I entered my courtyard and the cat was just sitting there.

I laughed and after putting my stuff in my house, came back out with my camera and tried to get the cat to turn it’s head towards me.

If you know cats, you can understand that I just gave up and shot this.

It is cooler around here & I assume the bucket full of dirt had warmed up in the sun, made a nice comfortable seat for the cat.

One of 2 courtyard cats, not really anyone’s cat it just does courtyard duty chasing mice.

20170101: Roommates no more…

20161231end-of-year-6798fb

I was aware of one of these guys running around in my peasant room, a little surprised when I caught the 2nd one.

Mouse sticky traps, so there is no way to get them off safely, notice that the business end is sharp and stuck down…

20161231end-of-year-6782fb

Woke up one night and thought I felt something under my foot. Pretty certain it was not one of these guys, but I did see it and knew the colder weather would drive them inside.

cut & paste from internet: “”About 250,000 people in Mexico are stung by scorpions each year—more people than in any other country. Several dozen people die each year. Indeed, for the past 20 years, scorpion stings have been the leading reason in Mexico for  deaths due to adverse reactions and poisoning caused by venomous plants and animals. There are more than 200 different species of scorpions in Mexico, of which only 8, all belonging to the genus Centruroides are a significant public health risk.””

types-of-scorpions

Well, it is hard to tell, but the scorpions are common here, so like camping in the desert, I knock out my boots & shoes before putting them on.

The 3 stripe scorpion in the right side of the top row looks closest and very common in this area. Also not considered deadly, just painful! NICE to know!

Happy new year folks!

210161231: End of the YEAR, a parting sunset! New Horizons await.

20161231end-of-year-6836fb

The leaves are falling and the birds still gather, a time of renewal & reflections.

Happy New Year folks, may whatever the energies bring to you, may you weather it in the good faith of learning and understanding.
