20160907: Color knock out lesson

From the Quinta series, I am working on the e-book and this is a favor photo of mine.

The tiles are too busy both in black & white and in Color.

But in the e-book I wanted you to see both. Putting a insert of the tiles by themselves was my first idea, but it just did not have that effect I wanted.

With this color knockout, I get want I wanted. It calms the image down. Just enough color for the mind to perceive the colors, a set of special tiles different  in the center, B/W or color it stood out. So by changing those tiles it does just that, sets them apart but does just calm down the whole image.

You have to kind of look at the image to realize those 5 tile are color while the rest is black& white. They don’t jump out at you.

The rest of the image is busy in black & white, but just a touch of color settles it all down.

I enjoy helping people so please feel free to ask questions or leave comments below.

Creative shooting folks!

20160808: Photojournalism, lesson in getting the shot. Shoot 1st!

As an old {very old} newshound, I have always as a Photography Editor or just being a photographer, told “Get the shot!” Pay enough attention to get that shot, then worry about cleaning it up for a Pulitzer Prize.

Here is the cleaned up “shot” of some very Wanted shots of a rainbow.

As you can see, while I will not ‘claim’ great in Photoshop tricks, having used Photoshop since 1994, I can do a little with it.

As a landscape photographer, I know rainbows can last hours or seconds, nothing to let you know which it will be.

I grabbed shots, and when we went upstairs for these and other shots, {I have 15 different subject & compositions final photos up here}, I did not notice the rain drops on the lens.

Instead of re-doing all the shots, it was noticed after a few frames, we then ran downstairs and got some of the double rainbow in front of the reflecting pond again and a couple others.

But by the time we got down stairs the rain was hard enough that no one wanted to be in it and the rainbows had faded.

However, I did also get this,

and this,

While still having time to get this,

Yes, the church steeple in the background by the young lady’s leg was ‘wanted’ in the shot, as well as the just beginning rainbow.

Move fast, learn your camera, no matter how basic it is, and don’t be worrying about “Perfect photos”, that cost 10 or 15 minutes a shot… This client will also have another 15 shots with the clouds in the background before they went flat grey and uninteresting. Of several locations, and subject.

Craftsmen want perfection…

Artists want expressive, flavorful captures in whatever medium they choose.

Creative shooting folks, and please leave comments below. My clients & I both love the inaction with you.

And yes, I am still invited to go back for more shots & my signature nightscapes.

20160807: Quinta, Rainbow shots & family fun….

2016080 Quinta final-5635FB

The upstairs arches on the left, running down to get this shot. The storm was moving fast and towards us…. We had shot the single rainbow earlier then went upstairs for the brick arches, only to run back down for the ‘double rainbow’ shots….

Double arch rainbow!

2016080 Quinta final-5633fb

With so much going on in the background, and so to have fun with. An artist’s delight & nightmare…

2016080 Quinta final-5620fb

Is it any wonder why the young ladies were playing around too? Ricardo will lie the fact I got his church steeple in this shot and the clouds/rain/rainbow help accent the motions.

2016080 Quinta final-5596FRB

as you can see the rainbow was just forming, & as a landscape photography, I knew we had to grab whatever it was going to offer. Moving fast to setup and get the shots, then move quickly to another location, set & run again. Glad I am still in shape at 58 yrs. old.

and of course, a spiritual property should have an overseer who is proud of the land itself.

Ricardo and a favorite cactus!

2016080 Quinta final-5624fb

From one arch to another, brickwork with such flavor…. and of course some beautiful women.

2016080 Quinta final-5605fb

While I have an issue with the plant in the sky, USA pro background, “it interferes” it is “Growing out of the building”, a standard of Mexican architecture. So for now it stays.

2016080 Quinta final-5607FB

A bit hard to keep it defined, but yes, there is a church steeple in the background that Ricardo wanted that in the shot. The young ladies were only to happy to play around in front of the camera……

an upstairs shot, kind-of-saved…
