I am an old black and white film photographer, who is loving the wide new vistas of what digital can do while respecting my knowledge of photography’s roots.
Let me share with you, my selection of BLACK AND WHITE prints, yes you only get to see the digital file on screen, I have been enjoying myself into the late hours of the night and again this morning: The Weston Cliffs at Red Rock Canyon, Mojave area Southern California, USA 2015 (shot 20151112)
A tribute to to my 42 years of photography, 15 years old in a print shop darkroom in high school working on the teacher’s Master’s thesis photos, 16 yrs. old I was in my own darkroom. I had a job and the apts. to run so a night time photographer I became, 10pm to 6am my play ground. Just instructions to tell me what to do, No teachers, no parent or brother, I was all to myself……….creative energy unleashed…….. I was shown a Hasselblad system at 4 years old. The photographer lived with us for a while and he would show me what he could do with the camera……..I still remember my putting my hands behind my back as I looked at the impressive machinery, the precision, craftsmanship…….wow. I wanted to know more.
I was a photo editor for a publisher that put out 6 weekly newspapers. First I was in the wet darkroom, later as I showed what my Mac system could do for my screen printing business, the newspaper went digital. The rest of the world was doing it already, us mountain folk get things slow…….1988-1997
I am at a loss for words after working on these images. The Weston Cliffs, named after Edward Weston for taking some photos there many years ago, are to me an awesome challenge to produce in Print.
I am making these prints for the Old Timers and Film Loving photographers of my Sierra Club Camera Committee. We are having a Member’s show in Dec. and I know I am moving from the area.
So, I made a special trip in to these cliffs to shoot them Nov. 12, 2015,
